Hey There

I have been SO busy with life I haven't been on here much!!! I guess that's what summer does!

First off I have had my phone off for weeks which is driving my husband nuts! I spend so much time on it I just needed a break, that and I get SO much done with it off. Side note you can also take naps.... Honestly I think I would never turn it back on if I had a choice. Next week I will turn it back on and join civilization again.

Second note for some reason I can not access my gmail email account. :( It has been locking up for weeks. If anyone needs to email me it is easier to use my business email. kerrie (at) handmadeobsessions.com. As I have been spending most of my time outside that is the only email I  have been checking.

Life is good, summer is good, our house is a little hot but I am working on that! Next week new mattress and whole house fan if I can make it work! That way we have a bed in the basement if it gets too hot and the whole house fan will suck the cool air up through the house. That's my plan...here is the rest!

-June, payed off car
-July, get whole house fan and new bed
-August, save and pay bills :)
-September, Finally hang tv over fireplace, buy new stove and hood (under $1000)
-October, save and pay bills :)
-November, save and pay bills :)
-December, Christmas gifts
-January, New Year Lots of Changes!

My husband drives so much for work (he gets paid for the miles) that the first of every month we get an extra check to pay for that. Some months it is enough to bump our goals up a month! I know we pay for the gas already but it is nice that there is some padding to the budget. Somewhere  in this plan I need to add new tires for my car but I am really hoping that I will almost have enough from his extra gas paycheck one month to cover them. I have the money set aside in savings but I hate to take it out if I don't have to.

Budgets are boring but they make life SO much better and for me less stressful! I am an organizer and planner and having a list makes me happy! Have a wonderful holiday weekend, those tomorrow in Canada and those in the U.S. Monday!

Weekly Money Checkup

1. The most I’ve spent this last week was paying our mortgage. It was budgeted for of course but it still hurts when I transfer the money. At least it is less than what we paid in rent when we lived in AZ....we did have access to a nice pool with our apartment though.

2. Today I am thankful for old friends and fun activities. My best friend growing up was on leave from the Navy so we went hiking at Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs today.

3. Money can’t buy happiness. One free thing I did last week that made me happy was attend the Bacon Festival and one of our favorite country bands (Reckless Kelly). We had to pay for gas as it was up in the mountains in Keystone, CO but the entertainment was free.

4. I will consider this week a success if I get the invitations for my sisters bridal shower in the mail tomorrow. I planned on getting them out today but hung out with my friend instead.

5. For the 4th of July, I am not sure yet what we are doing that exact day. We have a VERY busy holiday weekend, party Friday, party Saturday, and either Sunday or Monday we are helping an old coworker of my husband (from when we lived in AZ) that is moving to Denver. Somewhere in that mix my other sister is coming so we can practice our cupcake decorating skills preparing for the bridal shower....neither of us is even good at frosting a cake.

We have been SUPER busy lately! Since I got home from hiking I am doing laundry and picking up our house, it is a mess. Maybe after I get things picked up I will do some serious cleaning as the house REALLY needs it! Hope you have a wonderful week and enjoy yourself!

Stupid Banks

I have been waiting for today for over a month....

I called U.S. Bank to make our last payment on our Honda Pilot. They will give me the amount but wont let me pay over the phone. Exactly why wouldn't you want my money? Our online account never has the same balance as the mailed bill so I can't use it either! So I now have to wait until the new bill shows up for July! I am not happy because I was SO excited to pay it off today and that we will have NO more car payments! YEA!!!!!

The rest of today is not so exciting...ship out one small order and continue working on the invitations for my sisters bridal shower. I think I went a little over the top trying to do something fun. Each invitation has 4 recipe cards included so guests can bring some of their favorite recipes to share. My sister likes to cook so this seemed like the perfect theme for her. The mother of the groom and my other sister are helping me with food thankfully!

I still have to cut out all the invitations....I should have just sucked it up and bought some. Darn trying to be unique.

We have a FULL weekend!

Tonight Concert

Saturday see one of my best friends that is on leave from the Navy.

Sunday drive my crazy husband to the Bacon Festival in Keystone, CO for another concert with some friends.

Enjoy your weekend! Next weekend we have even more going on!  July is going to be a CRAZY month!

Weekly Money Checkup

1. The most I’ve spent this last week was on definitely on groceries. We probably also spent more because my husband went with me after he took me out for my favorite dinner.

2. Today I am thankful that it rained all last night and is cool and drizzling. Our front yard looks dry and dead because we have mites in the grass. My husband sprayed it with something Saturday so hopefully it kills the bugs and they didn't kill too much of my grass. :( I am SO thankful for rain!

3. Money can’t buy happiness. One free thing I did last week that made me happy was start reorganizing our garage since all the gardening items and camping gear moved to the shed. We need to buy some hooks for our bikes and some other misc. items but I can almost park inside again!!

4. I will consider this week a success if I finish going through our closets, de-clutter them, and take things to Goodwill so I stop being anxious. Since we have moved so often I have had to stay on top of our junk so I don't have to unpack it when we move. Even though we aren't moving anymore I need to keep up on this to stay sane.

5. My night-stand contains  ....junk. The top of it has a lamp, kleenex, and a silver baby cup that holds chapstick and hair things. I am adding de-cluttering the inside of my nightstand to my list of cleaning.

Life is what this is, not super exciting! One really exciting thing happened though on our way to a BBQ last night. We drove by the new Ikea that is being built and it says it is opening July 27! It wasn't supposed to be opening until September so I am REALLY EXCITED! I have had a list since we moved here of things I wanted from Ikea and there was no Ikea to buy them at!

Are you Alive....I am today

I have been a bad blogger...not on here much and nothing much of interest to say. I have religiously been reading blogs I follow and that to me is more important than me writing nonsense.

So I have been focusing on:

Planning my sisters bridal shower for the end of July. So far I have a cupcake stand, some red kitchen items and a binder with divided sheet protectors and tabs for different meal sections. She wants recipes so I am printing these recipe cards and these and these to go in the invitations and asking each guest to bring at least 2 recipes with them. Other than that I have no clue what I am doing as I am still waiting on a guest list. I am not a fan of playing games so I am not sure if I want to do that (she doesn't care). I also have no clue about food. So I am emailing her future mother in law because I know she wants to help and has no daughters. She HAS to have some ideas, right? I sure hope so....

The BEST thing happening in June is the 24th I am paying our Honda Pilot off!!!! That means we will have ZERO car payments on either vehicle. Side note is that it needs new tires but I am SUPER EXCITED that we will be done with payments. My husband still wants a Jeep and probably always will. It just isn't the best vehicle mileage wise or cost wise. I think he is wishing he wasn't responsible with money so he could convince himself that is ok to go buy one (used of course, you lose too much money on new autos). There are days I wonder if he will show up with one out of the blue because he wants one so bad. At least we will have extra money to save towards it if he makes that leap. As much as I don't want a Jeep set up to off road in (he will actually use it for that) he deserves the one thing he has been drooling about.

Other than that life is just moving along. Hope you are well and enjoying your summer!

Weekly Money Checkup

First off as it is Tuesday and not Monday I am behind....I was worn out from a long weekend seeing lots of family and I have house guests all week.

1. The most I’ve spent this last week was on groceries. I have been really good lately but I have been spending more on food trying to eat healthier.

2. Today I am thankful that it looks like it is going to be a cool day. My lettuce plants were not doing very well Friday and they are pretty much dead after a hot weekend. :(

3. Money can’t buy happiness. One free thing I did last week that made me happy was re-purpose frames/pictures I had in a closet around the house. My mom also brought me a copy of our family photo so now my frame has my husbands and mine. :)

4. I will consider this week a success if I get my house vacuumed. One of my house guests (my mom) is bringing some teachers (her coworkers) over tonight that are from my hometown.

5. One thing I appreciate about my dad is his ability to think everyone is good until they personally prove him wrong. As much as it also aggravates me that he gets taken advantage of it is an awesome quality to find in those around you.

Have a wonderful week!

So I'm not that Bright....

I am sitting in my family room not moving as my "wonderful" husband keeps turning on the security system while I am home. It is my own fault as my phone has been dead for two days. He is trying to get my attention to turn my phone on and call him back. Kind of hard when he turned on the motion sensors and I can't get up to get my phone or even go to the bathroom.

So I either blame myself for being stupid and having my phone off or chew him out for turning the system on almost 30 minutes ago and not turning it back off!

Gurr....I sent him a Facebook message but as he never checks Facebook I think I am in trouble...:( Today I am not a fan of our house being secure.

Weekly Money Checkup

1. The most I’ve spent this last week was almost $100 groceries. We were away from home and needed some good things to eat.

2. Today I am thankful that the shed we have been building is FINALLY finished. Minus me painting the doors.

3. Money can’t buy happiness. One free thing I did last week that made me happy was attend a focus group/survey to give my opinions about some new food ideas. It was fun and I got paid $60 for one hour!

4. I will consider this week a success if I get our laundry done. Yesterday I vacuumed and mopped the entire house, we need a smaller house....

5. One of my pet peeves is people that take their dogs on walks and don't pick up after them when they poop. Our last house was on a corner and I actually caught a lady park her car, let her dog poop, leave it and start getting back in her car before I made it outside and said something. Last week I was working in the front yard and said something to a couple that did that in our neighbors yard, I might not have said something had I not seen them do the exact same thing a few weeks before. Why are people so rude?
